Missing teeth can be a problem for your dental health and your own personal well-being. Dental implants can be used in a variety of situations to help replace missing teeth.
Here at Ikigai Smiles & Aesthetics Studio, we will be able to help replace your missing teeth to restore your smile and improve your confidence, however your teeth came to be missing. A dental implant replaces the root of a tooth and it can be used to hold the visible part of the tooth, known as the crown. A single implant is needed to replace a single tooth, but not every missing tooth needs to have an implant beneath it – a bridge can be used, supported by several dental implants, to replace many teeth.

A dental implant comes in two parts, the first is the artificial root - a threaded, titanium screw, which has a roughened surface to promote a very strong union between its surface and the bone of the jaw.
It can be placed in either the upper or lower jaw and in time will bond with the jawbone. The second part is what is attached to the dental implant root.
At Ikigai Smiles & Aesthetics Studio, we use a range of implant systems, each with a proven track record in the implantology field.
The implant stands alone and does not rely on healthy adjacent teeth being ground down for a crown; nor does it have to link to the neighbouring teeth in any way, an implant can actually withstand more load than a normal tooth. The dental implant is placed when the gums have healed following a dental extraction.
When inserted into an accurately created hole in the jawbone a strong union forms between the titanium and the patient’s native bone. This begins at about two weeks following insertion and continues to increase in strength until around six weeks when the screw can be used to support one or more teeth.
Enhanced smile aesthetics – Dental implants and the attached teeth restorations replace lost teeth so the smile can look complete once more with no unsightly gaps. The restorations are designed to look like natural teeth for improved aesthetics.Increased comfort – The implants are permanently bonded to the jawbone, so they work like natural teeth and will not bring the discomfort associated with using false teeth.
Improved speech – Speaking can be difficult when using loose dentures. Dental implants make speaking more natural and comfortable to do because they are securely attached just like natural teeth.
Restored food enjoyment – Eating with missing teeth or while using ill-fitting dentures can be extremely uncomfortable. With the dental implants in place, you can savour your favourite food items again without experiencing discomfort.
Self-confidence boost – The functional and visual improvement of the smile can bring about a self-confidence boost. Tooth loss can make someone feel insecure with their appearance and dental implants address this problem by delivering the much-needed improvements that can also enhance one’s overall quality of life.
Long-term benefits – Dental implants can be relied on to provide numerous advantages for a long time. With proper care and maintenance, most implants can be expected to last for a lifetime.

For routine cases, from the time of implant insertion to the time of placing the first tooth, treatment times can vary between 6 weeks and 6 months. Good solid bone will reduce treatment time, whilst more time and care must be taken with poor bone, which can therefore extend treatment times.

If looked after correctly, dental implants will last for many decades. We use the Straumann® dental implant system which has proved to last a lifetime, achieving fantastic results for all of our patients.

There isn’t a standard answer to how much implants will cost because the work required is tailored to your needs. Prices start from £2,200* and vary depending on how many implants you need and whether you need any treatment prior to placement (such as a bone graft). We understand that the price of dental implants can be daunting. For this reason we have a number of payment options available.

For most dental implant-supported teeth you will be able to clean around each supporting dental implant by brushing and flossing in just the same way that you would around your own teeth. In some areas we recommend flossing, inter dental toothbrushes and other cleaning aids to maintain excellent oral hygiene.
For the first few months after the dental implants are placed, your dentist may ask to see you more frequently. However, once your dentist is satisfied your treatment is performing as planned, ongoing care will be similar to patients with natural teeth.

The most important visit is the initial consultation where we will go through a series of questions regarding your previous dental and medical histories. This will help to determine if dental implants are the best option for you.
If you are in good general health, dental implants are likely to be a suitable option for the replacement of your missing teeth. However, habits such as heavy drinking and smoking can compromise the initial healing time and have a detrimental effect on the long-term health of gum and bone surrounding each implant.

Our dental care membership scheme encourages regular attendance, enabling us to spot problems before they arise and results in helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums for life.
